Hour 4

It was a long and eventful stint for Rob Finlay. An electrical gremlin basically shut down the power and Finlay had to bring the No. 2 Gentleman Jack Pontiac Crawford to pit lane on lap 83.

Dave Wagener, chassis engineer for the Childress-Howard Motorsports team, summed up the trouble:

“We had a power unit error during that last stint. It probably happened for three or four laps. We reset it twice and it finally lost telemetry. We it lost telemetry, it knocked out the rest of the electronics and finally took out the ECU. Basically, we lost power and, when you lose power, basically everything shuts off. We worked on the car for about 40 minutes and think we have the issue resolved.”

The actual time lost on the track was 44:50 minutes and, when Finlay was 23 laps down to the leaders when he finally returned to the track.

A shredded tire from another car brought out the caution on lap 131 which allowed the Gentleman Jack team to make a driver change. Finlay came down pit road on lap 134 and Casey Mears took over the controls. A loose seat belt forced him to come back down pit lane to the attention of the team for another adjustment. Green-flag racing began again on lap 140 with the No. 2 Pontiac Crawford in the 36th position.

Finlay commented on his stint after a quick debrief with the team leaders:

"There was a lot of stuff going on out there. Obviously, with electrical gremlins you can never tell. So, overall the car was still pretty good. It's a work in progress. Every time we go out, every lap we make is a positive."
